Agate: Agates are common rock formations that are typically composed of chalcedony and quartz. They often form within larger formations of volcanic or metamorphic rock. Agates are known for their colorful nature and banded appearance. Matrix: The material that something is embedded in. Banding: When a rock contains alternating layers of different mineral compositions. Normally, these layers have the same kinds of minerals but different amounts of each. This gives the rock a striped appearance. |
