Description |
Wooden trunk that belonged to renowned Dayton Geologist, August F. Foerste. The trunk was originally owned by August's father, John August Foerste. Trunk is wooden with a metal clasp and hinges. The front of the trunk reads "Joh. August Forste." The spelling and lettering style of this inscription indicate that John likely brought the trunk with him when he emigrated to the United States from Germany. The trunk contained many of Foerste's geological field research tools and equipment when donated to the DSNH. |
